My favourite children's book series EVER
Morrigan Crow Book series review
This is hands down my favourite children’s book EVER!
I have to admit that when my son first picked up this book from the library I was really skeptical, mostly because the first page in the book talks all about funerals and coffins! My son was 7 at the time and I really felt like I was pushing it in terms of it being appropriate, but he was adamant that we continued with it and I am so so glad that we persevered.
What is the Morrigan Crow book series
The Morrigan Crow/Nevermoor book series is a children's fantasy book series written by Jessica Townsend. The series follows the adventures of Morrigan Crow, a girl who is cursed and destined to die on her eleventh birthday but is whisked away at the last moment to the magical city of Nevermoor. In Nevermoor, she discovers a fascinating new world filled with magic and wonder.
The first book in the series, "Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow," introduces Morrigan to Jupiter North, who brings her to Nevermoor to compete in a series of trials to gain entrance into the prestigious Wundrous Society. The series is known for its imaginative storytelling, vivid world-building, and charming characters, drawing comparisons to other fantasy series such as "Harry Potter."
As I write this in December 2023 there are 3 books in the series, which are:
- "Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow" (2017)
- "Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow" (2018)
- "Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow" (2020)
There is a fourth book in the series which is due to be released in October 2024. We have this date on our calendar as we will be buying it the minute it is released.
As an adult I was just as captivated with this book as my son and could easily have read it on my own, in fact I was so desperate to know what happened next I was frequently tempted to sneak a peak at the next chapter whilst my son was at school!
We frequently talked about this book during the day, chatting through our theories about what would happen next and saying how we couldn’t wait until storytime to pick it up again.
I must confess I haven’t actually read Harry Potter (that’s next on our book series list after our current Lemony Snicket series), but I imagine that Harry Potter fans would love this book series as it features lots of magic, bonding children and fascinating worlds.
If you are going to delve into one book series this year I would highly recommend these books.
