This is my new favourite family board game, so much so that I asked for it for my birthday present!
I actually discovered this as an after-dinner game whilst staying with my brother and thought it was great fun. My 8-year-old son saw the box the next morning, wanted to give it a go, and was instantly hooked too!
The concept is a bit like the children’s game Connect Four, but you use playing cards, have a board instead of slots, and you need to get 5 in a row.
The board has each playing card on it twice, plus the four corners are free spaces, so there are lots of opportunities to win. The amount of players you have depends on how many cards you need to have in your hand at all times. Today for example we had 3 players, so we had 6 cards each. The aim of the game is to have 5 counters in a row, so you need to look at the cards in your hand and see the cards you have been dealt. Because there are two spaces on the board for each card (you play with two decks of cards) you should be able to play every card you have in your hand. The only exception is for the jacks, which are super cards which can mean you can either remove a coin in your way or go in any one space you like.
I have been playing this with my 8 and 7 year old and they have both picked it up quickly and enjoyed playing it. They both thought it was hilarious to block each other's path and really developed their strategic skills
I would highly recommend this game for anyone over the age of 7. If you want to buy it you can get a copy here.
