We love making our own chocolate bars, mostly because we enjoy eating them, but they also make really nice gifts for friends and family.

So today we have been playing about with some chocolate bars for Valentines day. We are pretty pleased with the results, if you are too you can find out how to make them below.

What you will need

  • Equipment wise you will need a microwave safe bowl to melt your chocolate and some molds for the chocolate bar. We use these silicone Chocolate bar molds, which are really easy to use and clean.
  • Supermarket own brand chocolate – I have tried making these with all different types of chocolate, but the cheap own brand supermarket chocolate is by far the best! People always comment on how delicious the chocolate is and think it is a really luxurious brand.
  • Toppings – for our bars today we used some love heart sweets, some chocolate hearts and some heart shaped sprinkles.

How to make the chocolate bar

  • First you need to melt your chocolate. I do this by breaking the chocolate into small squares and putting it in a microwave safe bowl. I then put it in for 30 second intervals, stirring after each 30 seconds until it is melted. Be careful not to over do it as you will start to cook the chocolate and ruin it.
  • When the chocolate is melted pour it into the chocolate mold.
  • Now the chocolate is all in you can decorate it. Use your creative streak to create your chocolate bar.
  • Once you have finished just pop the mold in the fridge. I always put my mold onto a baking tray to go in the fridge, just because I have had a few bad experiences of them not setting on a totally flat surface and them not looking right.
  • After about an hour they are good to go!

You can give these as cute gifts, but I would recommend that you keep these in the fridge as they do start to melt when left out at room temperature.

I hope you have as much fun as we did making and eating these. If you do make them we would love to see yours – share them on social and tag us in your pictures - @theparentingdaily
