COULD THIS BE THE CUTEST JOB IN THE WORLD? HEINZ IS ON THE HUNT FOR PICKY EATERS

  • Heinz is recruiting babies aged 6-15 months for their "Picky Panel" to taste-test baby food products
  • The initiative aims to address parental stress caused by fussy eating, with 65% of parents reporting challenges at mealtimes
  • Selected panellists will receive six months’ supply of Heinz baby food

Heinz is on the hunt for some seriously discerning diners – and we don’t mean food critics with decades of experience. Nope, this time, the brand is turning to the tiniest of taste buds to join their brand-new "Picky Panel" as official baby food testers.

What might just be the most adorable employment opportunity ever, the job ad posted on Heinz Baby UK’s Instagram page states that no professional eating experience is required - just big opinions on food!

But before you start imagining nappy-clad executives with miniature briefcases, there’s a small twist - since these junior gourmets are yet to receive their National Insurance numbers, there won’t be any cash exchanged.

Instead, Heinz is offering six months’ supply of their delicious baby food as compensation for their critiques. Now that’s a deal even the pickiest eaters would approve of!

The job ad states:

 “Key responsibilities:

  • Offer instant feedback through facial expressions, body language, or enthusiastic (or not-so-enthusiastic) cooing
  • Communicate food preferences to your parent/guardian (and us!) through visible signs of satisfaction (or rejection)

Qualifications required:

  • Age: 6 – 15 months at time of application
  • Dietary Expertise: Must be a picky eater with well-developed opinions on what you will and will not eat.
  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to express likes, dislikes, and indifference through facial expressions, gestures, and vocalization
  • Work Environment: Must be comfortable working from a high chair
  • Parental Supervision: A parent or guardian must accompany all testing sessions and assist with documentation and reporting of results”

According to Heinz’s research*, a whopping 65% of parents describe their little ones as “fussy” when it comes to food, with babies turning up their noses at meals five times a week on average.

And if that’s not enough to get your bib in a twist, nearly 40% of little ones refuse food at least once a day, sending stress levels soaring: 67% of parents admit their child’s picky eating habits significantly impact their daily stress levels.

But when parents do stumble upon a meal their baby loves, 60% report feeling happy, while nearly half (46%) experience sheer relief.

To help keep those mealtime moments magical, Heinz is seeking babies aged 6-15 months to take centre stage in their highchairs and serve as official Heinz food critics. These little foodies have one mission: to sample Heinz baby food and let their tiny taste buds do the talking. After all, if it’s loved by the pickiest eaters, it’s sure to be loved by all.

Almudena Rein, Head of First Foods, Heinz, said; “At Heinz, we understand that every baby has their own unique tastes and preferences, which is why we want the real experts - babies themselves - to have a say in our product development process, and that’s why we’re launching the search for ‘The Heinz Picky Panel’.

“We’ve been making baby food for 90 years and need to make sure the products we make continue to meet our incredibly high standards – both nutritionally, and taste-wise.

“We know parents don’t want to compromise on great quality and ingredients for their kids - but they also want something they will actually eat. Our customers tell us that our baby food is some of the tastiest out there, with lots of parents saying their little ones won’t eat anything else, so we’ve got a reputation to uphold! We hope the findings from our Panel will continue to inform and educate parents who struggle with their children’s picky eating.”

Angharad Rudkin, Clinical Psychologist, who is working with Heinz to develop the methodology to assess the Picky Panel’s responses to a particular food, said:

Weaning is an important developmental phase and is also one of the most challenging. Parents can feel stressed about it as they try to make sure their baby gets all the right food into them, while babies are more focused on exploring, playing and having fun!

“It is possible to combine these two needs, with weaning becoming a fascinating journey for both parents and children. Finding out what your baby does and doesn’t like is an important part of this journey, so watching and noticing what they’re communicating is the first step.

“Taking the pressure off to get it all right and instead seeing it as a learning process can also help parents to enjoy it more.

“The Heinz Picky Panel will help us understand even more about the weaning process, making it something to be enjoyed rather than something to endure.”
