A new family guide to days out in Devon has been published to inspire staycations and holidays in this top UK destination.

101 days out in Devon with Kids has been published by Devon mum Claire Hall -  a former journalist, serial travel blogger and editor of the Devon with Kids website.

Claire moved to Devon with her family in 2015. Since then she has visited more 60 family attractions here and enjoyed more walks, beaches and historic places than she can count. The joy of being a tourist in her own backyard led to the launch of her Devon website in 2020. Between June and August 2021, more than 101,000 families visited it to inspire their summer adventures.

The free 101 days out in Devon with Kids ebook is the website’s latest spin off project. It follows the publication of a Dartmouth colouring book for kids that was launched in August with original illustrations to guide young visitors around this South Devon town.

Claire has written and designed her new ebook. It includes her own photography of the places she has experienced around the county and wants to recommend to other families.

She said: “When we relocated to Devon a few things struck me: its landscape is seriously diverse; nothing ever prepares you for how narrow some of the ‘main roads’ are; and it’s huge!

“I don’t think a lot of people visiting Devon are prepared for that. This is why I wanted to create a destination guide that introduced them to some of the fantastic places to visit close to them.

“It’s all about minimising the cries of ‘are we nearly there yet’ from the back seat and maximising time for fun.”

The guide covers some of the most popular types of days out for families and tells you whether they can be found in the North, South (including Plymouth), West, East (including Exeter) or Mid-Devon.

Sections include:

  • Things to do on rainy days
  • Free places to visit
  • Gardens, countryside and parks
  • Farm parks and zoos
  • Adventure and activity days
  • Castles and historic places
  • Steam trains, trams and funiculars
  • Theme parks

The 89-page 101 days out in Devon with Kids ebook can be downloaded for free from the Devon with Kids website where you can find even more guides to family-friendly events and what’s on.
