Celebrate the Platinum Jubilee at Nunnington Hall

Discover Nunnington Hall’s royal connections

From Saturday 28 May the National Trust’s Nunnington Hall, near Hemsley, will be displaying objects not normally seen as part of a new exhibition celebrating the platinum jubilee.

Visitors can explore Nunnington’s royal connections in a new exhibition, exploring the Hall’s royal past. Items such as Elizabethan sixpences, a prayer book used as a diary whilst the owner was imprisoned during a rebellion, and a lock of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hair will be on display. It’s also 70 years since Nunnington Hall was gifted to the National Trust, and a quilt made by staff and volunteers to celebrate its golden jubilee is being displayed for the first time in over 10 years, alongside a painting of the Hall by Sonia Kenny, commissioned to celebrate the Hall’s platinum jubilee.

Hannah Highsted, visitor experience officer at Nunnington Hall, says ‘We've delved into the archives and gone through the history books to discover Nunnington Hall's royal connections. From Henry VIII to soldiers of the Civil War there are some surprising links to a royal past! Learn more in a new exhibition as we celebrate not only the platinum jubilee but 70 years since Nunnington Hall was gifted to the National Trust. From a ring containing Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hair to a quilt made by staff and volunteers celebrating Nunnington’s golden jubilee there’s plenty to see. Bring along a picnic to enjoy on the lawn and have a go at some classic garden games.’

As part of the platinum jubilee celebrations there will also be craft activities for younger visitors to get involved with between Thursday 2 June and Saturday 4 June.
