TRICK OR TREAT: NEXTDOOR TREAT MAP LAUNCHED IN THE UK TO HELP COMMUNITIES GET INTO THE HALLOWEEN SPIRIT

Halloween just around the corner, Nextdoor, the neighbourhood network, is unveiling its very own Treat Map. Launching on 17th October, and refreshed with new updates for 2022, the Map was created to encourage communities to come together and help trick or treaters find out what’s happening in their local area.

The popular occasion is set to see over half (56%) of the UK’s families celebrate, with those from London (53%) the most likely to take part. A further 44% of parents and 61% of children are planning to dress up, with a witches costume the unanimous top choice (29% and 27% respectively).

2 in 4 (51%) families are preparing to decorate their homes, and more than half (52%) are getting ready to greet spooky visitors with treats. However, despite people wanting to get involved, nearly two thirds (63%) of parents said they would feel more encouraged to trick-or-treat if they knew which houses within their neighbourhood would be taking part.

To help households up and down the country find out where the best places to go trick-or-treating are, Nextdoor’s Treat Map allows people to pin their house to the Map and let neighbours know how they will be celebrating - with three bespoke pins to choose from.

  • Sweet icon indicates that a home has treats so trick-or-treaters can be sure to stop by.
  • Spooky décor icon will let fright seekers know your home will be decked out in Halloween decorations.
  • And for those who need to be more mindful of the treats they’re seeking out, homes can pin an allergy free icon to show alternative sweets and goodies are available.

The Map is also a handy tool to help ensure those who may not want to join in on the spooky festivities this year can be clearly shown without a pin.

“Whether you’re dressing up or greeting trick-or-treaters, Halloween is a great time to get to know your local community,’’ said Roisin O’Neill, Head of Community UK at Nextdoor. “To help people plan the best route and find out who will be celebrating the occasion locally, we’ve created the Nextdoor Treat Map so people can easily identify who is welcoming trick-or-treaters in advance of setting out.’’

To add your home or to plot your route this Halloween, people can find the Treat Map in the ‘Discover’ section of Nextdoor. When adding your home to the Map it also creates a post in the Nextdoor Newsfeed under #Halloween so others can join in on all the spooky events.
