  • With Lucky Girl Syndrome trending on TikTok a new survey from Grosvenor Casinos finds half of people living in the South West believe in the power of using positive affirmations (50%)

  • 61% of Brits agree that people make their own luck with almost half (42%) say being optimistic is the best technique to welcome luck into their life, with the majority of Brits hoping to experience a jackpot win (40%) or a luxury prize in 2023 (27%)

  • The survey has been released ahead of Lunar New Year this Sunday 22nd January where millions will welcome good fortune into their lives with the Year of the Rabbit

Ditching a stiff upper lip to be more optimistic (42%) is how Brits plan to make their own luck in 2023, according to a new survey from Grosvenor Casinos.

With ‘Lucky Girl Syndrome’ trending on TikTok in which people are being encouraged to embrace the technique of using positive affirmations to welcome in luck to their lives, results of the survey found almost two thirds of all Brits (61%) agree - believing that people make their own luck compared to those who feel they are born lucky (34%).

Out of all Brits who took part in the survey that didn’t believe in luck, half of all people living in the South West (50%) believe in the power of using positive affirmations.

Amongst the most popular behaviours, almost half of all Brits who say they make their own luck (42%) said being optimistic is the most effective way to lead a lucky life followed by those who prefer to use the technique of positive affirmations (30%) and taking risks (21%), with women (47%) believing in the power of positivity more than men (38%).

The stats from Grosvenor Casinos, the UK’s largest casino operator, have been released ahead of Lunar New Year taking place this Sunday 22nd January in which millions of people are set to welcome good fortune into their lives with the Year of the Rabbit.

Kirsty Burridge, General Manager at Grosvenor Casino Plymouth, said: “As we look forward to celebrating the Year of the Rabbit, which symbolises the luckiest of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, these new survey results show that many of us believe that embracing an optimistic outlook or adopting positive attitudes and behaviours are the most effective way of bringing luck into your life in 2023.

“Whilst less people believe in being born lucky, everyone agrees that winning a jackpot money prize, dream holiday or even simply finding ten pounds in a trouser pocket is how they hope to experience luck in their lives this coming year.”

Winning a life-changing jackpot of money or a dream prize such as a luxury holiday top the table for how Brits hope to experience luck in 2023 (see full table below*).

To celebrate Chinese New Year, Grosvenor Casino Plymouth will be participating in a national prize draw to win a share of £88,888, with prize draws taking place on Sunday 22nd and 29th January.
