Planning to fly with children can be really exciting, but also a bit nerve-wracking! To make flying as easy as possible, we have compiled a list of things you can pack in your children's hand luggage to keep them happy and entertained.

1. Fully loaded and charged devices!

I’ve just spent the last hour trawling through Netflix, Disney+ and bbc iplayer to find all my children’s favourite tv programs. I have then downloaded them onto the device so no matter where we are (car/ airport lounge/plane) they always have something to watch when they get bored. If you can find some other activities that don’t need the Internet, like colouring or puzzles, these are great to download too. Don’t forget to charge the device fully before you leave and pack your charger!

2. Headphones

Everyone else may not be interested in what bluey is up to during their flight, so some children’s headphones are a great idea. We got some really cool ones here which look great and work via Bluetooth or the standard Cable. Again, just make sure these are fully charged before you leave.

3. Activities

These will depend on the age of your children. For my own children, I have got some of their favourite magazines, puzzle books, sudoku, notepads and pens. We also have a few handheld games like uno and dobble to keep us all entertained. For younger children items like scratch art or colouring books are great.

4. Comforters

This can be a favourite toy, an extra jumper or a small blanket to keep them comfy on the flight.

5. Clothes for the other side of your flight

If the weather at your destination is very different to home, remember to pack some appropriate essentials you may want to quickly change into at the other end, without having to open your big suitcases. We are travelling to somewhere really cold, so I have gloves, hats and scarves packed in mine. If you are off to somewhere hot you may want some sandals to hand - just remember to leave space for your bigger shoes to go back in

Also make sure you leave some space in your hand luggage for any food, drinks or other items you might pick up last minute at the airport lounge.
