Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire joins Wilsden Primary School’s Remembrance Day

Wilsden Primary Academy in Bradford has hosted its own Remembrance Day this month, with the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire and families attending the day to participate in activities and conversations.

As part of the celebrations, the school hosted a firepit where pupils sat together and ate s’mores; following this, the school proceeded up to the memorial in the village where Reverend Alison led everyone in a short service, which included two pupils reading a couple of short pieces.

David Harney played the Last Post on his bugle, followed by a 2-minute silence and David playing Reveille.

The Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire also attended the day and laid a wreath with the school’s Head Boy and Head Girl at the memorial.

In commemoration, the school assembled on their field in the formation of a poppy for photos and ended the day with a rendition of ‘Que Sera Sera’ from families.

Commenting on the day, Executive Headteacher Liz Davison, said: “We have had so much positive feedback following the day; the children were extremely articulate in expressing their sadness about war and conflict and also their thanks and gratitude for those who have lost their lives.”

Wilsden Primary School forms part of Focus-Trust, a charitable primary school trust based in the North West of England and West Yorkshire that aims to provide great schools at the heart of communities where children thrive, achieve, and succeed.
