Broughton teams up with Marie Curie for St David's Day celebrations

Broughton Shopping Park has partnered with Marie Curie North Wales to celebrate St David’s Day with a live performance from an award-winning choir.

On the National Day of Wales (Friday 1st March), the North Wales and Merseyside Rock Choir will perform a selection of traditional and contemporary hits for visitors at the shopping park to enjoy. 

Representatives from the charity – which helps those living with a terminal illness in North Wales and across the UK – will also be fundraising at Broughton on the day.  

This forms part of Marie Curie’s annual donation drive, the Great Daffodil Appeal, which runs from March to May and encourages people to donate and wear a daffodil pin – the charity’s icon and the national symbol of Wales.

The vital money raised will fund Marie Curie nurses and healthcare professionals to provide expert support and hospice care for more than 44,200 people across the UK.

Alan Pruden-Barker, centre manager at Broughton, said: “We’re proud that such an iconic national charity has chosen Broughton as the location of its St David’s Day fundraising, and we’re excited to welcome the very talented musicians of the Rock Choir to treat our visitors to a special performance. 

“We know our local community always rally around to support important causes like this and we encourage as many people as possible to come down to the centre to help us celebrate and raise funds to support Marie Curie in the brilliant work they do across North Wales and beyond.”  

Victoria Hardy, Marie Curie’s Senior Community Fundraiser for Wales at Marie Curie, said: “Our Great Daffodil Appeal is now in its 38th year and is a great way for local communities to help us to ensure everyone gets the end of life care they deserve. 

“This year, we’ve gone even bigger and better, and we’re thrilled to have Broughton as one of the locations of our St David’s Day celebrations. The Rock Choir are simply fabulous, and we know it’ll be a great day for all!”

To mark St David’s Day last year, Broughton Shopping Park donated more than 3,000 daffodil bulbs to local primary schools to encourage children to develop an interest in gardening and the environment from a young age.
