One of our favourite family-friendly Dartmoor activities is exploring Dartmeet, which some of you may also know as Badgers Holt. Dartmeet is known for it’s beautiful river, stepping stones and lovely picnic areas, and we love it all year round!

The kids absolutely love paddling in the shallow waters and exploring the rocks, and there is plenty of space for a picnic by the river. For us it is the perfect place to chuck on our wellies and head off for an adventure in the winter and in the summer we switch to swimming trunks and picnic blankets.

Parking is easy (there’s a decent-sized car park there), and there are toilet facilities and a small café if you fancy a treat after your walk. It’s a brilliant, low-cost day out, especially if you pack a picnic and make the most of the stunning scenery.

Dartmeet, Dartmoor is fantastic for outdoor fun and exploring. The only downside is that to get to the larger picnic area the ground is really uneven, which is great for adventurers but not suitable at all for anything on wheels (I’m thinking strollers/picnic wagons and wheelchairs).

The pluses hugely out way those downsides though. This is fun all year round and is the top of our list to visit whenever we head to Dartmoor.
