Spikey and the Caterpillar Sausage Cat book review by Oscar
My son, Oscar, has been loving the Spikey book series. Here is his review of the second book in the series, Spikey and the Caterpillar Sausage Cat
I absolutely loved the first Spikey book, which got me hyped up for the next book — and it exceeded my expectations! This book is a great carry-on from the first, and it’s got me super hyped up for the third Spikey book.
What is the story about?
The storyline is that Spikey is walking around and then finds a robin named Reginald who has just fallen from his nest and can’t fly. Like most robins, he thinks that he is the greatest animal in the park, and Spikey has to convince the robin to let him help him. Spikey then tries to teach Reginald to fly, where he finds a giant earthworm called Dave.
Now, with the help of Dave, Spikey attempts to teach Reginald to fly. Once they finish trying, Spikey calls in the help of his friend Stripey the ladybird, who can fly. Stripey then teaches Reggie to fly, and they all eat blackberries. Meanwhile, a cat is in the bushes waiting to strike — and then attacks Reginald. Spikey, Stripey, and Dave have to save Reggie from the cat. This leads to them somehow becoming friends with the cat, and they end up living with her outside.
Friends along the way
Spikey is amazing at making friends wherever he goes, and this time he makes friends with a robin, a worm, and a cat. His first friend is a robin named Reginald, who Spikey needs to teach how to fly. This is the main part of the story — so lucky robin!
Spikey’s second friend is a giant earthworm called Dave, who helps Spikey teach Reginald to fly. Spikey’s third and final friend is a cat who tries to eat Reginald — but then they end up saving the cat’s life.
Ending
The ending is where Spikey and his friends save the cat, and the cat rewards them with a meal at her house. Spikey then has to go home, but the cat lets Spikey sleep in a little cove in her garden. This is also where the fox sleeps, and the cat decides to sleep there too. They all end up having the same dream — that they’re flying!
“I loved the book, and I’m super hyped for Book 3!”

Final thoughts
My final thoughts on this book are that I loved it, and I am very excited for Book 3: The Mischief of Magpies. I think this book is great if you are reading to your child (ages 4+), but if your child is reading by themselves, I would say 7+.
A massive thank you to Tereza Hepburn for writing these books, and I hope you can do more!
