Make your own Pick ‘n’ mix station for kids
My children love a family film evening, where we all get to snuggle up the sofa with a great film and even better snacks!
On our hunt for some tasty treats, they have started to pay more attention to the pick ‘n’ mix stations that they have in the supermarkets and this is the first place they head to. We have bought a few of these, but I quickly realised that what my children really love is being able to serve themselves! My children are still fairly young, so the appeal of being able to pick exactly what you want and how much of it is so fun to them.
To keep the costs down and the fun going I decided to make our own pick ‘n’ mix station at home for our next film night and it was a HUGE hit! I went to the shop on my own (which is a luxury for me in itself ) and chose some sweets. Back at home I found lots of different dishes and set them all out on a tray, before filling them up with the treats ready for my children to choose from. I kept a few of the old cardboard cups from one of our recent trips, put some spoons in each of the bowls and let the children choose whatever they wanted.
This was such a simple thing to do, that took barely any time to set up and it bought so much joy to my little ones.
Another benefit to making your own is that you can try and balance out the treats a bit. I’m always quite wary of my children having too many sticky sweets, so I have put fruit in some of our bowls, or some little cocktail sticks with cheese and ham (anything on a cocktail stick always seems more desirable to my two!). Crisps, bread sticks and crackers can be great additions too!
This is definitly worth a a try at home! For more fun things to do with your children click here
