“This year sees the start of a mindfulness tour of South Devon Primary schools by local children’s author Rob Holmes.

Before embarking on his writing career, Rob was the co-founder of the very successful Gro Company children’s sleep company, featuring the Grobag and Gro-Clock.

After selling the business in 2013, Rob began a long sabbatical and started giving motivational talks at local universities about his entrepreneurial career. But in 2018 he began writing children’s stories, self-publishing ‘The Little Drop of Water’. Rob explains where this all started.

‘In autumn 2011, I was driving up the M5, when I had a very unexpected awakening event. It was the 20 seconds that changed my life. I never went back into the office again and I started practicing meditation and mindfulness. In 2019, I created a children’s character called Master Owl, to teach a combination of mindfulness and wisdom to families.’

In March 2021, Rob contacted 56 South Devon primary schools, offering to come and spend the day at their schools, reading Master Owl stories and teaching the children how to have what he calls a Magical Mindful Moment.

‘The tour is going so well. I have taught mindfulness to over 1,500 children so far but what really blew my mind was a comment from a parent after a recent visit. Her 8 year old son had sat his parents down and taught THEM how to practice mindfulness!! This is why I do what I do. I love my job!  Especially since the pandemic, families need mindfulness more than ever…’

Today also sees the launch of Rob’s latest book ‘The Mindful Adventures of Master Owl’, which is a chapter book for 7 to 11 year olds.

Available on an Amazon as a paperback and e-book, the stories help children to learn about the value of mindfulness, the importance of kindness, generosity, forgiveness, honesty, daydreaming, play and caring for the environment.”
