EDEN PROJECT AND WWF-UK LAUNCH FIRST JOINT LIVE STREAM FROM THE MAGICAL RAINFOREST BIOME AHEAD OF GREENEST BIG LUNCH ON 1-2 JUNE

The Eden Project in Cornwall and WWF-UK are teaming up for their first-ever joint lesson using the power of live stream to reach school children with a special Big Lunch themed virtual event from the attraction’s magical lush green Rainforest Biome.

Any child aged 5-11 in school stages 1 and 2 can enjoy this free 45-minute live interactive session (24 April 10:00AM) that will explore the importance of tropical rainforests, the food and resources they provide, and what we can all do to protect them.

This year Eden Project’s initiative The Big Lunch is set to be the greenest yet with WWF joining forces to spread the word and run activities collaboratively, encouraging more people to take part and do something planet positive.

Both organisations will deliver the interactive live session to teach children about the connection between tropical rainforests and the food we eat and share. The session will encourage children to think about food sources and social eating by focusing on community celebration The Big Lunch, enabling them to plan rainforest friendly dishes that they would like to make, eat and share.

Robbie Kirkman, Eden Project’s Education Lead who is delivering part of the lesson said: “We’re inviting children to adventure into Eden’s amazing biomes to learn about food and the incredible resources rainforests provide. Social eating and sharing food are vital to us all, so thinking about the choices we make in relation to The Big Lunch creates a thought-provoking connection between people, caring for nature and the planet we share. Our interactive lesson will be fun packed, bursting with riddles to solve, actions to take, and experts to ask! We don’t want any children to miss out so get your place booked now at TheBigLunch.com events page.”

Together with WWF-UK, Eden Project hope to inspire students’ curiosity and passion for learning in a lesson that will teach them to describe the reasons why tropical rainforests are important for wildlife and for resources that humans use. Children will learn about the links between tropical rainforests and the food they eat, while having fun experimenting with ideas to create a sustainable and rainforest-friendly Big Lunch for 1-2 June.

Amy Ball, Teaching Community Manager from WWF-UK’s Education Team said:

”WWF is delighted to be supporting our friends at the Eden Project to invite everyone to share food, fun and friendship in their communities. This Big Lunch is going to be the greenest yet and we are so excited to be able to bring our ideas, top tips and resources to the table.”

Lindsey Brummitt, Eden Project Programme Director responsible for The Big Lunch said: “The Big Lunch on 1-2 June is the perfect opportunity to inspire young creative minds to think about connecting in our communities, social eating and rainforest friendly food to eat and share. The Big Lunch is all about sharing friendship, food and fun and this year we’re teaming up with like-minded organisations including WWF-UK as we aim to make it the greenest Big Lunch ever! We hope our magical live lesson will result in rainforest friendly dishes appearing on tables everywhere! Sign up at TheBigLunch.com and be part of the greenest celebration yet!”

The Big Lunch is the UK’s community get-together that’s good for people and the planet, bringing friendship, food and fun back to neighbourhoods on 1-2 June. The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project made possible by The National Lottery. Since 2010, we’ve been bringing people together to create happier and healthier communities thanks to National Lottery players, who raise £30 million each week for good causes across the UK. The Big Lunch kicks off the Month of Community when good causes come together to celebrate community, encourage action and fundraise annually throughout June

Everyone’s invited – so let’s spread the word and get the party started! Free tips and resources are available now at TheBigLunch.com
