Wildwood Devon: A Peaceful Family Day Out in Devon

If you’re looking for a family day out in Devon that feels a little calmer and more nature-focused, Wildwood Devon is a lovely option to add to your list.

Set within beautiful woodland near Escot House, Wildwood Devon offers something a bit different from your typical attraction, with a focus on native wildlife, natural habitats and plenty of space for children to explore.

What Makes Wildwood Devon Special?

One of the biggest things that stood out to us is how peaceful it feels. Unlike busier theme parks or attractions, this is very much a slower-paced day out where children can enjoy both the animals and the surroundings.

The park is home to animals you don’t always see elsewhere, including bears, wolves and lynx - all within large, natural enclosures that feel much more in keeping with their environment.

Is It Good for Kids?

Yes - and for a wide range of ages.

When we visited, our group included children aged 4 to 11, and they all stayed engaged throughout. There’s a nice mix of animals and play areas, including:

A small indoor soft play area
Woodland play features like rope swings and climbing spots
Open space to explore and enjoy nature

It’s also mostly buggy-friendly, which is helpful for younger children.

How Long Do You Need?

Wildwood Devon works well as either a half-day or full-day trip.

We stayed for around 4 hours and saw most things, but you could easily spend longer if you take your time, stop for a picnic and enjoy the setting.

Tips for Visiting

Wrap up warm - the woodland setting can feel quite cool and shaded
Take a picnic - there are some lovely spots to sit and eat
Don’t rush - it’s best enjoyed at a slower pace
Keep expectations realistic - animals aren’t always visible, which adds to the natural feel
