Butterfly painting

This painting activity is so much fun and teaches children all about symmetry!

What you need:

  • Butterfly shapes cut out. I find it easiest to fold a piece of paper in half, then draw one half of the butterfly from the fold. When you then cut it out you will have a perfectly symmetrical butterfly.
  • Paints. I try and go for washable paints to save our clothes!

What you need to do:

I normally start with the butterfly still folded in half so the children can decorate  everything they see. When they have finished decorating half of their butterfly, fold the other half on top of the print, so the pattern prints onto the clean side. Open up the paper and you should have a symmetrical butterfly.

Have fun
