Kid Skin Hacks for the Winter
- Slugging - The winter can be very harsh to children's skin especially as they move regularly between the cold outdoors and central heated indoors. Skin can itch and chap. Slugging can be a fun and super effective method to protect the skin barrier. Apply a thick dollop of moisturiser such as Nivea, Vaseline or Troikin's Nightology to delicate areas such as eye lids, around the mouth, behind the ears and the neck at bedtime like a deep hydration mask that penetrates the skin over a few hours. Wake up to soothed skin that is much less likely to itch and dry out and therefore much less likely to break down and become infected.
- Ice spoon rescue - If your child has super red areas that are too irritated to touch or cold sores for the regular winter viruses use the back of a metal spoon that has been left in the freezer for a few hours to calm the skin. The super cold metal also acts to reduced any pain in the area and allow for better skincare once the area is less uncomfortable. It's a super easy yet fun way for children to be more involved in making their skin feel better - don't forget to wash the spoon before sharing again.
- Ice cream cream - When children's skin is super inflamed sometimes even applying a gentle moisturiser can sting and burn. Pop the cream in the fridge to avoid the stinging as the cool cream immediately soothes the skin more and also reduces redness and inflammation.
