The sun finally decided to make an appearance (thank you, British summer!) and it turned out to be the perfect day for a bit of family fun at the Mammoth Slip and Slide, tucked away at Greendale Farm Shop in Exeter.

We’ve seen this plastered all over Instagram and knew it was only a matter of time before we gave it a go. And I have to say… it did not disappoint!

First Impressions

As soon as you turn the corner of the farm track and see the Mammoth slip and slide from the top, it's hard to not feel excited! The setting is stunning and the slide looks HUGE! So we were all pretty hyped to get started.

One thing that stood out right away was just how smoothly everything was run. It felt like they’ve really thought the whole experience through from start to finish — which, as any parent knows, makes a big difference.

There’s parking right next to the slide, which is perfect as I was a bit concerned about having to trek back up the big hill with two soggy children. We turned up 30 minutes early, which I would actually really recommend doing as it gave us a chance to see how it all worked. My son was a bit nervous, so he really appreciated having a bit of time to get his barings and see a few people go down the slide in the time slot before us.

There are a few picnic benches dotted about at the bottom of the slide and lots of grassy space that was great was picnics and the kids to have a run about beforehand.

The Booking Bit

If you book online, you’re asked to fill in a waiver form beforehand, so once you arrive, you just need to check in and you’re good to go. Just before your session, the lovely team does a quick safety chat — nothing intense, just a fun and friendly briefing that covers how it all works, which inflatables you can use, and what to expect once you get going.

The Slide!

My 8-year-old daughter was absolutely buzzing to get started. She’s a total adrenaline junkie and has been desperate to try this ever since she spotted it last summer. She had no problem dragging her rubber ring to the top again and again and again (and again). There was always a bit of a queue, but it moved quickly, and let’s be honest — watching people fly down the slide, fall off their surfboards, or squeal their way to the bottom is almost as fun as going on it yourself.

The team running it were brilliant. They really seemed to get the kids — knowing when to give a gentle push to the nervous ones and when to launch the thrill-seekers like mini rockets. There was music playing, kids squealing, and the kind of happy chaos that makes it feel like a mini summer holiday, even if you’ve only driven 20 minutes down the road.

A Word on Siblings...

My 10-year-old son isn’t quite as into this kind of thing — which is totally fine. He gave the slide one go (major proud mum moment), then declared he’d rather spectate. This could easily have been a bit of a disaster, having to entertain one child whilst trying to watch the other one on the slide (or even having a go yourself if your brave enough), but honestly he had a great time too! He loved watching all of the other people go down the slide and even tried racing down alongside his sister on foot.

I think that’s worth mentioning because if you’ve got children with different personalities (like mine), it can be tricky finding a day out that suits everyone. But this worked so well for both of them.

What You’ll Need

Here are a few bits to keep in mind if you're planning a visit:

  • 💦 You will get wet! Sounds obvious, I know, but I saw a few surprised faces! Whether it’s a swimming costume, a wetsuit, or just comfy sportswear, take whatever your child is most happy in. And don’t forget a towel and a change of clothes!

  • 🧦 Socks or wetsuit shoes are a good idea. It was a hot day when we went, and the tarpaulin got a bit toasty underfoot. My daughter went barefoot and was fine, but some kids wore socks to keep their feet cool and protected, they probably added a bit of extra grip too.

  • 🧺 Snacks and water – an hour of sliding is thirsty work! There’s a fab little food hut with drinks, snacks, and ice creams, but it’s always worth having a bottle of water and a few bits tucked in your bag.

Final Thoughts

We loved this day out. It was fun, simple, and full of proper laughs. It’s the kind of thing we’ll be going back to, especially with friends. The vibe was spot on — relaxed, family-friendly, and just really well put together.

And the best bit? It’s all based at Greendale Farm Shop, so once you’ve finished your session, you can head over to the play area, check out the farm trail, or refuel with a milkshake and a slice of cake from the café. You could even combine it with the Bounce South West inflatables (we reviewed that here too!).

If you’re looking for a fun summer activity in Devon that keeps the kids active, gives them something to talk about for days, and doesn’t involve hours of travel, the Mammoth Slip and Slide at Greendale is an absolute winner.
