Online retailer Studio reveals the latest trends for Valentine’s Day, as consumers shift away from romantic traditions

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of Valentine’s Day is ‘when it is traditional to send a card, often anonymously, to a person one is romantically involved with or attracted to.’

However, online retailer Studio has identified a number of growing trends that suggests a shift away from the romantic tradition often associated with couples, with consumers opting to send gifts of love and appreciation for their children, close friends and even their pets!

Key growing trends:

Valentine’s Day gifts for Kids’ shot up a massive 300% in 2021 compared to the previous year
Galentine’s Day grew a massive 170% in February 2021, compared to the same period in 2020.
Self-love is a trend that has really taken off over the last five years, with search data suggesting that online interest has increased by 88% since 2017
UK pooch population has grown a massive 64% over the last decade to over 12.5 million, so Studio have a range of gifts for you pet pal this Valentines Day.

Valentine’s Day is for children too

Over the last few years parents have jumped on the trend of buying gifts for their children to share their love and appreciation on Valentine’s Day, in particular the ‘mini me’ trend where parents and their kids get to dress in the same outfit. Google search trend data shows that the term ‘Valentine’s Day gifts for Kids’ shot up a massive 300% in 2021 compared to the previous year too. This rise in interest could be the result of lockdown measures, as parents chose to show their appreciation to their kids who were forced to study at home whilst schools were shut. As this trend continues to grow, it’s clear that Valentine’s Day is no longer exclusive for couples!
