Meet SPOKE: An App Improving GenZ Mental Health Through Music

SPOKE is a new mental health app combining AI, science, music and lyricism to improve mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. The deeply personalised app helps listeners with everything from sleep to heartbreak, confidence and focus.
Musicians, voice artists and composers are trained by a team of clinical psychologists, therapists and neuroscientists. Each musical session is designed for users to achieve a desired mental state.
Inspired by there being very little culturally relevant support for Gen Z males, a demographic that has the highest rate of suicide due to mental health issues.
SPOKE has a 4.9 rating on the App Store and launches on Android later this month.

SPOKE, is a new app designed to improve mental health through the combination of music, therapy, science and AI. SPOKE’s mission is to help Gen Z improve mental health issues, such as anxiety, through music, song or spoken word sessions that help users achieve a desired mental state.

The app provides deeply personalised sound experiences to its users. The sessions are tailored to help users with everything from sleep to heartbreak, and confidence to focus. The deeply emotive nature of SPOKE’s music, which spans many different instruments and voices, assists listeners with an emotional release.

Emotion is an important concept for SPOKE’s method. The company believes that one way to solve issues such as burnout is by evoking an emotional release. SPOKE’s artists have been trained by a team of clinical psychologists, therapists and neuroscientists so that each lyric, beat, sound and melody is intentionally designed. The result is music that has the same impact as scientifically-proven therapeutic practices.

Created in its very own East London studio, each soothing session features music and spoken word by some of the UK’s best producers, singers, songwriters and rising artists, including Nick Brewer, VIC, Jordy, Jamillah Barry, Lemzi and Parthenope.

SPOKE guides users through a series of questions to generate their personalised music therapy experience, supporting them in life areas such as; relationships, career, family, sex, and more. Each episode teaches science-backed mindfulness and therapy techniques to improve mindset, sleep, reduce stress, and build resilience. With continual use of SPOKE, users will have a greater awareness of their emotional state and deeper knowledge of how their mind works.

Ariana Alexander-Sefre, SPOKE’s Founder was inspired to build SPOKE after witnessing first-hand the growing mental health issue amongst Gen Z and the growing issue of young male suicide, when her younger brother's best friend took his own life.
