🌼 The April Edit by The Parenting Daily
April has been and gone — and we’ve loved soaking up a bit more sunshine this month (while happily eating our body weight in Easter eggs!).
We’ve rounded up some of our favourite activities, book reviews, and parenting articles from April — just in case you missed anything.
👣 What Have We Been Up To?
Family Fun at Dartmeet on Dartmoor
This month we headed off to Dartmeet on Dartmoor and were quickly reminded why it’s one of our favourite family-friendly spots in Devon. The scenery is stunning, and the kids loved climbing over the big rocks, spotting Dartmoor ponies, and exploring the trees.
We’re planning a return visit with a picnic once the warmer weather settles in.

🧊 Activity of the Month
Monster Truck Ice Play
As soon as the sun comes out, my children start asking for an ice-themed activity — so this month we went with Monster Truck Ice Play.
It’s a super simple setup, but it does require a little prep the night before. It’s always a hit and great for sensory play!

📚 Books We've Been Reading in April
The Escape Room by Christopher Edge
My 10-year-old and I both got hooked on this book! It follows a girl’s adventure through a mysterious escape room. It gets a bit dark in places, but the ending completely blew our minds — neither of us saw it coming.

Mummy Fairy and Me by Sophie Kinsella
My 8-year-old daughter and I have loved this sweet, funny read about a little girl whose mum is learning how to be a fairy. It’s a great bedtime book — short, engaging, and packed with fun activities at the end.

Slow Cooker Family Meals for Busy Nights
Our evenings are becoming more and more busy with extra curricular activities that my children love doing. Between the time it takes getting everyone to these various places with the right kit/equipment we have been struggling time to work out an evening meal!
The best solution I have come up with for these busy school nights are slow cooker meals, so we have put together a list of some of our favourite slow cooker family meals. You can see this full list here.
